Lord, Hold my Hand.....

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”  Matt 14:28-31

In the book of Matthew, he tells us about Peter and his doubt.  Nick and I have been talking a lot about this lately.  We recall doubting if we would have enough money for our vision trip to Kenya from our estate sale, doubting the sale of our home in this crazy market, doubting the positive effect this path would have on Gilly as a Missionary Kid; continually doubting our steps along the way.  Nick and I were joking yesterday saying that God is probably looking at us, rolling his eyes and chuckling to Himself, "Really, you are still doubting Me and My plan for you?"
We can absolutely relate to Peter and his hesitation of stepping out of the boat toward Jesus!!  When God removes one doubt, we have another one that seems to arise, just waiting for Him to remove it and reassure us again.  He has removed so many obstacles from our path that we thought were impossible: We had a successful estate sale and more than enough money for our vision trip, we sold our home and didn't have to pay the buyer to purchase it from us (this is rare, in this market) and Gilly told us 2 weeks ago that when he grows up, he wants to be a Pastor (talk about tears of joy!).  What big doubts God has removed for us and replaced them with assurance in answering His call!
Today at 4pm Nick will be talking with his employer about the time he will have left at his job.  This has weighed heavily on our hearts and as of July1st, our reliance on God will be greater that we could ever imagine!  Inside, we have cried out like Peter, "Lord, save me!"
I heard a sermon once about Peter and his reliance on Christ when he reached out his hand across that stormy lake; waves crashing all around him, wind swirling, it was probably difficult for him to even see Christ.  The sermon went on and the point was, that it's easier to get out of the boat if you are holding someone's hand.  I envisioned Nick and I holding each other's hand, tightly, and reaching to Jesus with our free hands.  I have used this image many times in the past few days as more of God's path is revealed to us.  We know He will clear the doubt and grab our hands within the wind and waves.
Thank you Jesus for helping us to take this next step and keeping our eyes on you.  Thank you for giving me Nick's hand to grip tightly as we reach out to yours.  Thank you for hearing us when we cry out, "Lord, save me!" And for asking us, "Why did you doubt?"..................
