Proverb 16: 3 3Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
A couple of the questions we hear a lot are; “What’s the plan?” and “Why Kenya?”.
So, “What is the plan?”...... Our mission is to share with the people of Kenya what Jesus Christ has done for us. We would like our focus to be the unreached tribes; areas where people have never heard the story of Jesus. Our plan is to minister though word and deed, to help provide a fresh, sustainable drinking water supply and medical care. We are not certain of the exact area. We are committing ourselves to the LORD. That is an overview of the plan. The details of the plan will depend on the area of our ministry and the group or team we end up working with. The Mission Society, our spending agency, has a number of contacts in Kenya. We have been in correspondence with some of these contacts and we will be meeting a few of them during our vision trip in November. Hopefully, we will have clarification regarding the location of our ministry following our visit.
Why Kenya???
Well, the initial place I started looking was on the web, primarily at the World Health Organization (WHO) http://www.who.int/en/ in search of statistics about Kenya. Kenya has a population of about 40 million people. About 40% of the population does not have access to clean drinking. According to WHO, the problem has improved over the last 20 years. Nearly 55% of the population did not have access to clean drinking water in 1990, so it looks like the situation is getting better – praise God. This is good news, but there is still a problem. If we work together to provide a solution, someday every Kenyan will have access to clean drinking water, just like I do. As a Christian, I am called to love my neighbors as I love myself, and one basic necessity I have is access to clean water. I want to be obedient to God’s calling on my life by helping to provide the people of Kenya with this basic necessity and by showing them the love of Christ. Did you know that about 22% of Kenyans don’t know Christ? (A surprising fact that I read in 'Serving Around the World') This is just short of the amount that don’t have access to clean water – what a wonderful blessing and responsibility God has placed in our laps. We have been asked to bring the Living Water to those in need and sharing the love of Christ with them is definitely in the plan.
